Frequently Asked Questions

How do I download offline maps?

Open the App and navigate to the Map tab. Tap the download icon to save the lake map for offline use. Downloaded maps include depth contours and your saved waypoints. We recommend downloading maps before your trip while you have WiFi — the lodge has Starlink so you can also do it when you arrive.

How does data sync work?

All your catches, waypoints, and trips are stored locally on your device first. When you have an internet connection (WiFi at the lodge via Starlink, or cell service when you travel), data automatically syncs to the cloud. You never lose data — everything works offline.

How do I use the depth finder?

The depth finder uses your GPS location to look up the lake depth at your position. Make sure location services are enabled for the app. Depth data is available for Dogskin Lake and Mannifrank Lake. Shown at the top of the map screen alongside your boat speed.

How do I log a catch?

Tap the "+" button from any screen. Select the species, enter the length, and optionally add a photo, lure type, depth, water temperature, and notes. Your GPS location and the current lake depth are recorded automatically. Catches appear on the map as markers and in the Catches tab list view.

How do I take or add photos to a catch?

When logging a catch, tap the camera button to take a new photo with your device camera, or tap the gallery button to pick one from your photo library. You can attach multiple photos to a single catch. Photos are stored locally alongside the catch record and upload to your Dogskin account when you're online. If location services are enabled, GPS metadata on the photo is used to enrich the catch location.

What weather data does the app show?

The Weather tab shows live conditions at Dogskin Lake — temperature, wind speed and direction, barometric pressure with a rising/falling/steady trend arrow, humidity, cloud cover, UV index, and visibility. You also get a 24-hour barometric pressure history chart (walleye fishermen, you'll like that one), a 48-hour hourly forecast, and a 10-day outlook. Data comes from Apple WeatherKit and refreshes roughly every 10 minutes during the fishing season.

Does the Apple Watch app work without my phone?

The Apple Watch app is a companion to the iPhone app and syncs via Watch Connectivity. From your wrist you can quick-log a walleye or northern pike, see your catch counts for the day, and glance at your current depth and speed. The watch stores new catches locally and transfers them to your iPhone when the phone is in range — useful when your iPhone is in a dry bag and you're wet-handed.

Can I sign in with Apple?

Yes. The app supports Sign in with Apple, Sign in with Google, email sign-in, and anonymous guest mode. All four are equally supported — your catches, waypoints, and trips sync the same way regardless of how you sign in. You can also upgrade from an anonymous guest account to any of the sign-in methods later without losing any data.

How do I delete my account and data?

Go to Settings in the App and tap "Delete Account." This permanently removes your account, catches, waypoints, trips, and photos from our servers within 30 days. If you signed in with Apple, we also revoke your Apple account token automatically as part of the delete flow (via our server-side proxy at dogskin.com/api/v1/apple/revoke, so no credentials live on the device). You can also email us at webinfo@dogskin.com to request deletion directly.

How do I enter my lodge code?

Open the App, go to Settings, and tap "Lodge Code." Enter the code provided by the lodge (e.g. DOGSKIN). This links your catches and waypoints to the lodge for leaderboards and shared data. Note: lodge codes are not actively used in the current version of the App — your data still syncs and is fully functional without one.
